Glossary
If a word in a Nexus briefing isn't familiar, it's probably here.
Betting a price will go UP. You buy now, hoping to sell later at a higher price. This is the only direction most African retail stock apps support.
Betting a price will go DOWN. You borrow and sell first, hoping to buy back cheaper later. Needs a margin, CFD, or futures-enabled broker — most ordinary stock apps don’t offer this.
The price range at which a setup suggests buying (or selling, for a short) — not a single exact price, since prices move before you can act.
The price at which the idea is considered to have worked. "Extended target" is a further level if the move keeps going.
The price at which you exit if the idea is wrong, to limit the loss. Some apps place this automatically; others require you to watch the price and sell manually.
How much you stand to gain compared to how much you’re risking. "2:1" means the target is twice as far from your entry as the stop is — if you’re right as often as you’re wrong, you’d still come out ahead.
How much of your total trading money to put into one idea, usually shown as a percentage of your portfolio — not a dollar or Naira amount.
A single tradable instrument that holds a basket of other assets (e.g. many African companies’ shares at once). EZA and AFK are ETFs — you buy one ticker to get exposure to many African stocks.
How confident the idea is — HIGH or MEDIUM. Not a guarantee; see our track record for how past setups actually performed.
The one or two sentence reason behind a setup — what news or price action it’s based on.
The pattern behind the idea — e.g. "Breakout" (price pushing past a level), "Pullback" (a dip in an uptrend), "Reversal", "Momentum", or "Catalyst" (news-driven).
Of all CLOSED setups (hit, stopped, expired or cancelled), the share that hit their target. See our track record — it counts every outcome, not just the wins.
